That new platform feel...

Welcome to all the newcomers and welcome back to the folks who were previously reading along directly on the website or just over email! This space is a fresh coat of paint and a bundle of newness, but hopefully it also continue to have the familiar Necessary Evil outlook. You'll see past posts have been imported here, so if you're brand new, you can still see the back catalog and you haven't missed anything.

What to expect

You should expect a lot of the same because the source hasn't changed 😅 My hope is that this space feels more navigable and coherent, but continues to reflect the values that underlie Necessary Evil as a concept — tough subject matter, challenging perspectives, and deeper dives rather than the standard, surface-level internet fare. It will continue to be a bit of a mix of physical and political over here, but you should come prepared for slightly more involved, longer written content that extends beyond the intersection of physical training and political action.

I'll surely talk more about this (at length) going forward, but one of the things I've been missing is a space for harder-hitting, deeper conversations. Academia was rarely that space for me, and I'm finding that it's more about the people and less about the context or medium. Tuck and Cass mentioned on last week's Gender Conceal episode that podcasting is dead, and Substack is the fourth horse of killing longform written content for sure. So I can't fix everything structurally wrong with our information ecosystem, but I can hope to carve out a little oasis for likeminded folks amid the sea change of...everything. And that's all the hope you'll get out of me, lately.
